This Is
Elvis
This film is written, produced and directed by Malcolm
Leo and Andrew Solt. Where this film differed from other
documentaries was in the use of actors in short sequences dramatising
different times in Elvis's life; from a small boy in Tupelo through to
the teenage high school student in Memphis, to the troubled and
overweight Elvis of August 1977. The majority of footage used throughout
the film was culled from many sources including feature films,
television specials, television guest appearances, press conferences,
interviews, candid family film and off-set movie locations. Warner Bros.
press release information made it very clear that this project would in
fact be seen as Elvis's 34th movie, and that their film would be a very
revealing portrait of a gifted and much-loved entertainer. Another very
different spin on the standard music documentary was the inclusion of a
narration (by Elvis impersonator Ral Donner) to provide a first-person
viewpoint as if from Elvis himself. |
